Fire officials gained some ground on fire suppression early this week but warned of warm weather in the coming days, with 35-mile-per-hour winds potentially worsening fire conditions.

Some evacuation orders have been reduced to Level 2 (Be Ready) along the eastern side of the fire, but Level 3 (Go Now!) orders remain in place west of Lyle and east of Bingen. Highway 14 remains closed from mile marker 66 to 76.

Evacuation shelters remain open at the Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon and across the river in The Dalles at The Dalles Middle School.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
