New wildfire in Washington prompts evacuation orders in Klickitat County

The Brewer Road Fire is burning in Klickitat County, Washington, just north of the 11,000-acre Burdoin Fire.

A new wildfire is burning in Klickitat County, Washington, just north of the Burdoin Fire that started last Friday.

The Brewer Road Fire broke out Wednesday afternoon and prompted officials to issue Level 3 (Go Now!) evacuation orders for those living in the nearby towns of Klickitat and Wahkiacus, and other surrounding areas.

Level 2 evacuation orders are also in place. The fire was estimated to be over 50 acres as of Thursday morning.

State Road 142 has reopened after the Brewer Road Fire prompted traffic officials to shut it down Wednesday. Officials are reminding people passing through to be mindful of emergency crews working in the area.

Washington State Parks has closed parts of the Klickitat Trail due to the wildfire.

A separate brush fire also broke out Wednesday along the Bickleton Highway, east of Goldendale.

Officials there issued Level 3 evacuation orders on Wednesday afternoon, but rescinded those orders within a few hours. That fire was estimated to be about 40 acres.

Investigators don’t yet know how either fire started.
